Here at The Dunes, we treat addiction with the Syndrome Model of Addiction in mind. We believe that addiction stems from underlying causes and conditions. Proven research has shown that substances and high occurrence patterns of behavior actually can shift brain function and emotional state. That’s why when we create treatment options, we focus on treating causes and consequences of addiction. Also known as the 3 C’s:
- Loss of Control
- Addiction Related Consequences
What research has found is addiction can be expressed in a variety of ways including: gambling, exercising, shopping, drug or alcohol abuse, etc. These addictions all have similar causes to the dependence. Our team of clinicians will evaluate to determine what the root consequences and causes of addiction are. When we have the root causes and consequences in place, we can help determine what treatment plan best fits the patient.
